Frequently asked questions

Can I work remotely from Spain for my Australian employer?

Yes, as long as your employer is based outside Spain and confirms in writing that you can work remotely from Spain. It's worth raising payroll, tax and super with your employer early.

How much income do I need for the Spain digital nomad visa?

In 2026 it's €2,762 gross a month (200% of Spain's minimum wage). Add 75% of the minimum wage for your first family member and 25% for each one after that. Income in AUD counts — it's converted to euros, so leave a buffer for exchange-rate changes.

Can my partner and children come with me?

Yes. Each family member adds to the income you need to show, and their applications can be lodged alongside yours.

Should I apply from Australia or in Spain?

Both work. Applying at the Spanish consulate in Australia means you arrive with your visa sorted. Applying in Spain, after arriving visa-free, usually gives you a longer first permit. The best choice depends on your timing.

Do I pay tax in Spain on a digital nomad visa?

If you live in Spain more than 183 days a year, you'll usually become a Spanish tax resident. Some digital nomads can choose a special tax regime. Get advice from a tax professional who knows both countries.
